Coffee Urns
Coffee urns come in varying shapes, sizes and price points. As you look into getting one for your home, we provide you with tips to help your decision making process.
One of the first things you have to decide is whether you really need a coffee urn. If you need less than 10 cups of coffee at any given point in time, then you might be better off just having a coffee maker.
The next thing you need to think about is what size do you want? If you are just getting this for your home or office, then think about the amount of coffee that is consumed at one time or in a short interval like say an hour. So for a small office or a home, a 12 cup or a 24 cup coffee urn might be sufficient. For larger gatherings or parties, you can look into 50 or 100 cup coffee urns.
Once you know the size that you want, think of what features will be helpful to you. Remember that the larger the number of features, the more the urn will probably cost you. Listed below are some of the features that you can find in a coffee urn.
Coffee Urns - Features to Consider
Coffee Level Indicator - This tells you how much coffee is in the urn. This way you know when you will be running out of coffee. No reason to run out of fresh coffee.
Freshness Indicator Lights - Many coffee urns come with a freshness indicator. What this does is tells you how long the coffee has been kept warm in the urn. This will give you an indication of how long ago the coffee was made and whether it is time to make a fresh batch.
Temperature Control - You can also find a coffee urn that allows you to control the temperature at which the coffee will be kept warm. If you keep your coffee warm at very high temperatures, then it will become stale very soon. On the other hand, keep your coffee warm at lower temperatures and you can enjoy it for a longer period of time.
Dripless Spigot - Many models come with what is called a dripless spout. The idea is that you will not have any coffee dripping onto the floor or your table.
Drip Tray - A drip tray is a wonderful feature to have just in case something does happen and there is a coffee drip. If someone over fills or the spigot doesn't function properly, then the tray captures as spill overs thus saving you the trouble of mopping up.
Another thing you must consider when looking for a coffee urn is whether you want the pour over kind or the automatic kind. As the names suggest, in the pour over you have pour the water into the urn. In the automatic, the urn is connected to a water pipe with no intervention needed on your part.
One last important thing that you need to think about is the price. Depending on the size, features, materials and manufacturers, the price of a coffee urn varies. If something seems too expensive then give up on a few features.
There are so many different coffee urns on the market that it should be very easy for you to find one that meets all your requirements.
